Operational problems of swatch toilets construction

. 1. People don't know the importance of construction of toilets tbat it upkeeps their health by avoiding the human excreta in to the food chain. Hence, extensive IEC activities have to be taken up for sensitize people for construction of toilets . GoI have also sanctioned grants for this purpose.

 2. A few Administrative officials and public representatives take interest in construction of the toilets. Ironically, a few people hinder the construction process. Where ever public is got involved, construction use to be expedited.

 3. A few envineers feels that toilets construction is not their duty. Wherever technical staff have shown interest and worked collectively, construction was expedited.

 4. Lack of co-ordination among the staff and between staff and public representatives is the reason for delay in construction.

 5. The Self Help Groups, Resident Welfare Associations, Non- Governmental Organizations , Bankers are not involved in the construction process at various levels for mobilising people and providing advances .

 6. Many people thinks that all the amount required for construction has to be arranged by Government, even though they are not that poor. In such expected situations, it is very difficult to convince the probable benificiaries. "The number of cell phones are more than toilets " situation reveals the lack of interest of benificiaries for not constructing the toilets.

 7. Some times the total benificiaries to an extent of 100% is not identified in the survey. It would be a hurdle in achieving the Open Defecation Free town.

 8. A few people makes the wrongful applications for construction of toilets, even if they have toilets. This type of attitude demoralise the staff.

 9. The sanctions proceedings do not handed over in a locality to the tune of 100%. This delays the construction, as some people and public representatives hinder the construction.

 10. Even after issuing the proceedings, the markouts are delayed or construction is left at the mercy of the benificiaries. At a later stage, many objections are raised on way of construction.

 11. Availability of masons for the construction of toilets are not available, making it difficult. Some municipalities have mobilized the masons and a few have impart the training to tide over the situations.

 12. The geo-tagging is a new concept. Staff is unable to do it. Training is required. Adequate number of smart phones, smart people are required to do the things properly.

 13. Computerisation of applications and payments are required. It requires a huge number of computer operators are required.

 14. Immediate payments after completion of different levels is the most required thing for expediting the construction of toilets. But, wherever corruption prevails, payments are delayed, diluting the principle mission of swatch Bharath.
 15. Some people convert the toilets into the bathrooms, nullifying the core motto of Swatch Bharat.
16.After 100% completion of toilets, staff don't concentrate on use of it and don't concentrate to declare particular locality or ward as open defecation free. If it is the ultimate goal, the objectives of Swatch Bharat mission is achieved.

17. Space is also constraint  in slum localities to take up toilets. Community toilets or Group toilets are solution for mitigating the problem.

18. Some officers are reluctant to make a few changes to the design,  though it is allowed by the Government of India.

COW- Yet another mist

In Post liberalisation period  (after 1991), Our country tried to increase the exports to increase its foreign reserves. In order to meet the situation,  she have exported the frogs. This has earned her around 17 Cr Rupees as foriegn exchange.

Subsequently,  it has decreased the frogs population, badly disturbing the food chain. This action has increased the mosquitoes population. Since the we  spent more than 3 Lakh Crore Rupees on mosquitoes prevention and cure activities.

In the recent past, Our country is eying on the meet exports. The largely targeted animal is cow. This is another biggest mistake. Cow has been protecting us in following ways:

1. Cow releases oxygen by inhaling oxygen.
2. Cow products such as ghee , urine and dung releases the oxygen in huge quantities.
3. Cow milk, ghee and urine cures many diseases.
4. The presence of cow itself cures many diseases.
5. The cow dung upkeeps the soil fertility by producing earth worms naturally.
6. Cow absorbs the solar insolalation and radiation and protects the human beings.

The cow doesn't show any disparity on the basis of caste , region and religion. She protects the whole India. The abnormal slaughtering of cow leads to unhealthy India. It is time to awaken. We shouldn't commit yet another mistake.

Hence, i request to save cow to save ourselves.oh ey

Simple Dengue preventive measures

In view of the Largescale dengue cases in Delhi and other places, i am here with submitting the proven measures to be followed by people to avoid dengue fever: 1. Addasaram (Adathoda Vasika) is a wonderful Ayurvedic plant that fights the mosquito borne diseases. It has also capacity to control mosquitoes. It can be easily propogatable. It is introduced to me by Dr.Suresh Jakotia, an Ayurvedic doctor. The multiple advantages of Addasaram plant are as follows: 1.Addasaram leaves act as a repellant. When the Addasaram plants in large number is planted in the backyard park of Khammam municipal Corporation, not even a single mosquito is existing in office premises. Simultaneous , about 1, 50, 000 stumps of Addasaram was distributed incity of khammam.(stumps can be regenarated as plant, as in case of Rose). On growing, It gave very good results of decreasing mosquitoes. A.Addasaram leaves also acts as Larvicide.Whenthe leaves are crushed and left In to the stagnant waters in right proportion, it kills the mosquitoe larvas.it was tested in suryapet. In Khammam , it was tested in presence of District Malaria officer sri.Rambabu. B.Addasaram leaves can also be used as preventive. Homeo preventive medicine consists of Addasaram leaves only.In ayurveda, it is told that on administering the addasaram leaves for 3 to 5 days, It can act as curative. (Take expert opinion for quantity , time and period of administering). C. it can also act as a Curative also.Chicungunya pains does not cure even after it is cured.I had seen, one person suffering with pains administering Addasaram boiled water(the aaddasaram leaf shall put in water and boiled and leaf shall be takenout), it subsidised the pains. It gave the quikest results, I had ever seen. D.it has water purifying capacity. E.It can strengthen the Lungs of people on administering. Other mosquito repellant causes damages to Lungs. Where as Addasaram prevents and kills the mosquitoes and strenthens the body systems including lungs. Khammam municipal Corporation also distributed 10000 each addasaram stumps to Vijayawada, , kothagudem and Badrachalam towns. There is also plan to distribute 100000 stumps to tribal areas of Badrachalam division. 2. In the similar situation of dengue cases at khammam, a preventive homeo medicines by name " Arsenic Alba" was distributed to every house. 3. Some people suggest that papaya leaf juice cures the Dengue and it is available in tablet form also. 4. Dry day , which means evacuation of water from all vessels, on Friday was followed scrupulously. 5. Gambusia fish and frogs were administered in all the large scale stagnant waters. 6. Kerosene was administered in pot holes. 7. Aedis egypty usually grows in fresh water. Hence, water in coolers has to be evacuated. During my visit to Dengue affected houses, many of them had forgotten to evacuate the water in the coolers after their use in summer. 8. The tender coconuts has to be cut into two pieces horizontally after consuming coconut water.Government should take action to establish tender coconuts crushing machines. Please share this article to the known people of Delhi, so as to be confident in difficult times. For full article on addasaram and mosquito control, please visit www.sbkashyapaeco.com or www.urbangreenlivings.blogspot.com.

Save farmers

I suggest the following measures for protecting the farmers :
1. The expenditure cutting measures like natural farming , organic farming should be adopted by farmers.
2. There should be insurance for all the crops. In case of failure of crop also, farmer would not be shocked.
3. Programmes like NREGS should be used for farming development and agricultural operations.
4. Rich persons should help farmers and provide  input costs and buy the farm out put at market rate.So that middle men would be eliminated and all the profit would be reaped by farmer.
5. Marketing and storage fecilities to farmers should be increased. So that farmers can reap the benefits.
6. Farmers should purchase the required materials in bulk from the companies at negotiated prices. For this, Co-operative farming should be encouraged by the Government.
7. Farmers should prepare their own seeds and seedlings to decrease the input costs.
 8. They should also adopt alternate crops to ensure soil health.
9. Farmers should also get additional income from allied sectors such as Animal Husbendry, fishing, teak plantation,  herbal plantation,  kitchen gardens, breeding of earth worms, etc.
All the above measures are related to farming. There are  other requirements of timely rains , water fecilities ,  increased water table, technological connectivity and transportation .

In this regard, the following measures are required.
1. Large scale tree plantation and environment Protection measures should be taken up by the Government to ensure the timely rains.
2. Water Conservation measures like protection and Rejuvenation of tanks and lakes should be taken up. Checkdams should be constructed to ensure increased water table.
3. Usufruct plantation should be taken up in the Government lands to provide the additional income to farmers.
4. All the urban fecilities such as internet, telephone connectivity, transport fecilities, health and education fecilities,   roads, drains should be provided in the rural areas, as envisaged by Abdul Kalam. These gives the increased negotiating power to the farmers.
The social maladies like illicit liquor,  dowery, etc. are also reason for the increased suicides of farmers.

Sustaining the saplings

Sustaining the saplings is difficult task than planting. But, there are prescribed ways to sustain them. It starts at the stage of selection of site and sapling as follows :

 1. The plant should be healthy and hale for the sustainability. The cut plants and unsuitable plants to soil won't sustain.

2. The site of plantation of saplings should be dig properly till the original soil appears. Soil with rocks, bricks , debris and plastics doesn't ensure the sustainability of saplings.

 3. The pit of plant should be big ( padhu in telugu ) allows water harvesting . This method allows the moisture for more days, ensuring sustainability of sapling.

4. While planting, the soil should be mixed with red and black soils. It ensures the nutritional equilibrium. Vermi compost should be added to ensure moisture content.

5. After filling the soil in the pit, it should be tighten with legs. It ensures the sustainability.

 6. Watering should be ensured regularly till the saplings get the new leaf.

7. Where water is not adequately available, drought resistant saplings should be selected for ensuring sustainability.

8.The saplings should be planned in the area where protection and guarding fecilities are available like compound walls, tree guards, etc.

9. Where protection is not available, the saplings not grazed by animals should be planted.

10. The plantation of saplings should be planned during the rainy season. Rainy season ensures the sustainability naturally.

 11. Tall plants shall be planned for the avenue plantation.

 12. Care should be taken to fall of sun rays on the plants. Saplings planted under the big trees and shadow areas generally won't sustain.

Role of Ayurved in Making of Golden Telangana

Dr Suresh Jakotia has written this article of Role of Ayurved in Making of Golden Telangana.I have added a few points. Enjoy reading.

Though there are teething problems for starters Our History and Culture will guide and give us enough strength to making of Golden Telangana like simple remedies can cure chronic disease.

Development is not only Financial but also the Happiness Index of the society.Which can be easily achieved throgh the dictum- Sarve bhavantu sukhinah.Sarve santu niramaya. Sarve bhadrani pashyantu.Ma kaschid dukha bhag bhavet.  A historical story of Samudra Manthan is known to all where Devas and Asuras struggle to get the Amrutha of Immortality, but while doing so they had to face the Haalahal followed by Seventeen other Ratnas like Lakshmi,Rambha,Varuni,Kamadhenu,Airavata,Uchasrava,Kaustubha,Kalpa vruksha,Bow,Chandra,Shankha,Dhanvantari and Amruta lastly.

In the same the present scenario of the problems faced by the world is going beyond the control of human civilization and is very threatning. At this juncture we can use the knowledge of Ayurved and other allied traditional knowledge systems to overcome this disaster to become sustainable and for the well being of our society.

Harithaharam, flagship programme of the telangana can be used to increase the number of herbal plants in each households . Herbal parks can be established in all urban areas. This will bring wellness among the people of the telangana. Herbal plants can be also used for creating the livelihoods among the rural poor. All the hills and fallow lands can be afforestated with herbal plants and processing should be taught to the poor people. Sowing/ plantation of saplings, Protection of plants and watering of them can be taken up under MGNREGS or SERP schemes.

The mosquitoes borne diseases can be controlled easily by the propogation of Addasaram plantation, especially in tribal areas. The Infant Mortality Ratio and Maternal mortality Ratio can be decreased by using the plants of shatavari and Ashwagandha. On rearing of the herbal plants on large scale , we can make telangana capital of herbal plants.

We bring your kind attention towards the "Pot Economics"-The Kumbha Artha Shastra where without any financial burdens the economy rolls on,like if the society starts using Earthen pots for daily use the Potter starts removing the silt from lakes to make pots, by doing so water is stored in lakes.Which in turn restores the Water table of villages, fields get water, animals get fodder, people get ample work and occupation, women get easy access to water, fisherman gets fish, farmer gets enough water for crop ,nature enjoys and thus the whole vilage is benefitted similarily if Ayurved and other Traditional Knowledge systems are encouraged the Socity will prosper without extra burden

Dr Suresh Jakotia: Ayurved and Agriculture What role Ayurved can play in Agriculture ? Ayurved has a branch Vrukshayurved which deals with health of Plants. Ayurved says "Sarva roga hari kshudha".A good appetite of food relieves all diseases. Hence food is the pillar of good health. At present due to proportionate increase of food production to population use of Lots of chemical fertilizers and pesticides are the main culprits of causing incurable diseases like Cancer etc .

Hence now every one is reverting back to traditional agriculture methods of organic cultivation.  Ayurved says "Pprakrutim abhikshanam smaret. "-Remember nature always. Cow based agriculture is gaining ground.Panchgavya with many herbs like Neem,Nirgundi,Capsicum,Sitaphal,Kanuga,Vacha,Banti,Ganneru,Dhatura,Tobacco,Papaya, etc are being used with dramatic results .This has to be propagated at grass root levels to increase health of produce and humans ultimately. Many Patents have been registered by us for Gomutra based bio enhancers in soil fertility ,pesticide effects of neem etc.

Organic Farmers can also reap the benefit of additional income through weeds which have medicinal values.  Dr Suresh Jakotia: Come Let us all join hands and start eating millets for our health and thus be a part in conserving nature for the next generation.

Dr Suresh Jakotia: Food Industry Ayurved says Foods which are locally available should be eaten for good health "Yasya desha prasutasya tachan tad aaharam hitam" Telangana food is basically Millet based.Millets like Jowar ,Bajra,Sama rice,Arika rice,Korra or fox tail millet ,Tydalu or Ragi,Variga rice, etc were once the staple food of ours . We now think eating Rice or paddy as sophistcated or posh lifestyle habit, but Scientific Research is proving that eating white polished rice is the culprit of many Life Style diseases like Diabetes,Hypertension orBP, Arthritis,Deficieny in multilevels of Micro nutrients.  Moreover our Millets are rainfed and help our farmers to prosper as they need less fertilizers etc and have more nutriton values.

where as Rice cultivation is exploiting our water resources and its consumption made Our City Hyderabad The Diabetic Capital of India for which we should take care about our future generations. We can control the diabetes with the plants of Amla, tippa teega and Ranapala, etc. Water Coservation Ayurved says "Paaniyam Praninam Pranam! Vishwameva cha Tanmaya".

Water is the life force without which neither healthy nor unhealthy survives. Rainwater is the purest form of water. This will solve the water problem of Telangana if we all start harvesting and conserving rain water for our selves and Mother Earth. In the conservation of the tanks under Mission Kakatiya , ayurvedic plants can be used. Catchment area plantation increases the rains. The water evaporation of the water of tanks can be decreased by planting the Ayurvedic plants such as Arjuna, neem and pipal. These plants also controls the siltation of tanks.

Maladies of french toilets

In the recent past, many of the new buildings are placing the french toilets. Some people even replacing the Indian type of toilets with the french toilets.

The reason for such changes are includes the growing knee joint pains in young age, obesity and using modern gadgets while excretion. Instead of finding the remedies to the joint pains, people are resorting of temporary solutions like french toilets. Many of the people don't realise to know the importance of excretion .

But,Using of french toilets have a lot of disadvantages as follows :

 1. The time for excretion is usually high in french toilets, thus increases the tension for lack of time.

 2. People started to read paper and use of mobile phone to save time at the time of excretion. But, it is causing lack of concentration on it.

 3. The excretion usually don't take place fully. Thus, the impurities in the body remains in the body causing the burden on the end organs like heart, skin, kidney , etc. It is also causing gastric problems and indigestion.

 4. The post excretion cleaning is also not good by people in India. It may causes the diseases like dhiorria.

 5. Some modern french toilets consists water pipe directly pumping water on to anus. But, there is every possibility of water hitting the sensitive parts of anus and leading to piles, etc.

Simple water harvesting techniques

Simple techniques of water harvesting :

It is is now time to harvest the rain water. The Ground water has depleted alarmingly. The reason is simple that most of the houses are covered with granite or tiles, not allowing water to percolate. We want drain to drain roads without thinking about the water conservation.

I would like to tell you the simple water conservation techniques.

 1. Simply water out of the roof can be caught in the buckets and vessels and to use it for other than drinking purpose.

 2. Roof water can be sent to already constructed sumps or tubs.

3. Banana sapplings can be planted , where roof water falls. Banana plants have amazing capacity to absorb water.

4. Removing tiles and granite stones of your back/front yard , allowing water to conserve. Enjoy the water conservation, as you are 90% water. Share it among other Groups, if you like it to reach many.

Athi sarvathra varjeyath

Athi sarvathra varjeyath is the vedic word, which means not to do the activity or consumption frequently. Doing something frequently causes boredom and loss of interest. This article of Athi sarvathra Varjeyath is written in the context of the bird flu disease caused by virus in the Birds , especially in hens and cocks.

Here i want to discuss the methods evolved in rearing the Birds and its immunity. Also, the methods of consumption of chicken based meet and ways to control them.

In olden days, hens and cocks ( Henceforth Birds) were reared locally and sale or purchase of Birds was a rare activity. The Birds were moving in the backyard of the house and Birds sometimes go out also to earn its food. Over a period of time, some people started selling and purchasing Birds. But, this activity was in small scale and use to carried out directly or in fairs or weekly markets.

In 19 80s, small scale farms were established for rearing the Birds. There were some space for Birds to move in the farms. The feed was given to Birds by rearing persons. The contagious diseases to the Birds were rare.

In late 19 90s , Large scale Bird's farms were established. The space for the Birds have drastically reduced. The feed used to be given excessively to the Birds. In sanitary conditions use to prevail in the Bird's farms. These things have caused the frequent contagious diseases and use of vaccines and medicines. Bird flu is one of such diseases. But, it is deterring the human beings and their food security.

Evolution of Consumption of meat :

In olden days, meat used to be consumed only during the festivals and temple festivals. It is allowed at the time of arrival of guests. There use to be curry and gravy. Much varieties were also not available, except in a few rich houses. Some hunting families and dead animals eaters used to consume non vegetarian regularly. Some people went to an extent by storing meat as pickle and dried pieces.

After liberalisation in 1991, many changes have occurred in the consumption of non vegetarian food. Many big shops have been opened. Cooked food is also available in large varieties. Kababs, leg pieces, manchuria, puffs are some of such varieties. KFC, McDonald's revolutionised the sale market of non vegetarian food. People started eating the non vegetarian food on regular intervals. Some people started eating in different non vegetarian food varieties on almost every day. Most of functions are served with the non vegetarian food with the fear of blame from relatives. The attendance of the people is low, where vegetarian food is served. Thus, people are forced to serve non vegetarian food during the marriages and functions. But, optimum number of people still follows the weekly 2 days holiday on the name of God. The boon in disguise is that people learning yoga , swadyaya follwers and some other people left the non vegetarian food either temporarily or permenently.

How to decrease the non veg consumption :

 1. The consumption of non vegetarian food during the marriages and functions has to be banned by all castes and religions.

 2. The holidays for slaughtering has to be strictly implemented. Even selling and consumption of non vegetarian food has to be strictly prohibited on those days. It is pertinent to mention that Jahangir, the Mughal king also banned consumption of non vegetarian food , twice in a week.

 3. The vegetarian propogation organisations should expedite the work. It is to remind that Buddhism and Jainism have protected the cattle population, when there was crisis in 6th century B.C. Similar conditions are existing now.

 4. The illegal trafficking of animals and birds should be prohibited.

 5. Wide publicity should be give on the advantages of vegetarian food and losses of non vegetarian food to the environment.

 6. The Self control measures like sravana masa, weekly holidays shall be reinvented to motivate vegetarianism.

Maladies of Alluminium vessels

Aluminium is a metal used to make cooking vessels and other industrial purposes. It was first used for cooking vessels and eating plates during the British period in Jails. The intention of the British were to weaken the freedom fighters. Due to the legacy of British, we are still cooking in the Aluminium vessels. The Disadvantages of cooking in Aluminium are that it reacts with the flourine and forms Aluminium florate , which is 200 times dangerous than ordinary flourine. The flourosis causes joint pains and bone pains in the initial stages. In the next stage, it causes bones are weakened , bones are deformed. It has impact on brain and tooth. Hence, today I have quit the cooking in Aluminium vessels. Instead I started get cooking in the Brass vessels. It is realised after 5 days thinking to quit. I request to quit Alluminium cooking vessels.

Natural Alternatives

Dear friends, use of artificial products is one of the reasons for the degredation of the environment. To quote, in olden days people use to use soap nut powder or shikakai for cleansing hair. This compelled the people to protect the trees. In the present days, we are using chemicals, where we need not compell to protect trees. The chemicals pollutes the earth and don't irreverse the pollution caused. Where as tree products don't cause pollution and irreverse the pollution. This is one model case study.we can think of tooth powder, soaps, cosmetics, pesticides , fertilisers and many things. Hence, I request that while buying a product, think whether it is an environment friendly product or not. I request you to share this thought with other Groups, if you like it. Happy environment day.

Advantages of drinking pot water

Drinking the pot water has multiple advantages of health, economic and environment. They are as follows : 1. As per the vedas and Ayurveda, human body is made up of pancha bhutas. Drinking water in pot allows swallowing of minerals and Bhu (earth) amsha. This will keep the consumers healthy by supplying nutrition to body. Where as steel and plastic does not do this. 2. The cool water in pot doesn't cause the cold , cough and other respiratory problems. Where as the cool water in the fridge has a lot of temperature difference and causes respiratory problems. 3. The pot water has mechanism of cooling naturally. The temperature of water in pot changes according to the season. One can avoid the refrigerator, which damages the environment, by using pot. 4.Pot is usually made up of black cotton soil taken from the tanks. On using of the pots, desiltation of tanks naturally takes place. This protects the environment by upkeeping the water in the tank and greenary around the tank. 5. The habit of drinking water in pot allows the thriving of pottery industry. This will create additional man days during the summer. It is a boon for the rural employment. 6. The disposal of pot remains is an easy and an eco friendly process. Where as disposal of other metals and plastic is difficult task. 7. The manufacturing process of pot use to be a energy efficient way. The metal and plastic vessels consume a lot of energy and transportation. 8. The manufacturing of pots use to be in a decentralised way. It doesn't use or release the chemicals. Where as metals and plastic manufacturing use to be done in centralised way. It requires many chemicals and releases the same. There by pollutes the environment.

Why Some animals are barred from killing?

Some animals play vital role in the sustainability of of the human kind. Either they will help directly or indirectly. They are barred from killing by ancient scriptures. Here, I want to explain why some animals are barred from killing and the stories intertwined with it.

These are the following animals barred from killing : Cow,
 Cat ,
Snake,
 Lizard,
 Squirrel .

Cow is the most important animal for the development of the Agriculture from the ancient days. We can't assume the agricultural development without the cow. It is the major source of food by providing milk and milk products. Its products are rich source of oxygen. Cow dung and urine has been used as fertilisers and medicine. The ox , male sibling of cow was used for the ploughing and transportation. A strong ox is left in the village as property of village for better breeding of the animal. It is like a present sperm Bank concept.

Vedas have give top priority to Cow. Cow is termed as Aghanya, which is not to be killed. Many other terms such as daughter, son - in-law are also formed on the basis of cow. In view of the above importance and dependence on the cow, cow was not allowed to be harmed. Gohatya was considered one among the pancha maha pathakas.

Cat is a domesticated animal. The major source of food of cat is rats. In absence of Cats, the population of rats increases and would threaten the food security of the human race at house level. In my childhood, our elders taught that if a cat is killed even by an accident, making the Golden cat will not nullify the sin. That is the importance given to the cat in view of the food security.

Snake is a poisonous animal, though not all of them. The Hindhu puranas have given utmost importance to the snake. The Lord Shiva wear the snake in his throat. The Lord Vishnu stays on a snake Vasuki. Ksheera sagara madhanam was done using a snake and a mountain. Hindhuism gives pious status to the snake. Hindhus celebrate the Nagula Chavithi and Nagula panchami. The snake assures the control of Rats at fields level. In absence of Snakes, Rats will eat away the food grains in the farm. Hence, killing of Snakes were barred, except in unavoidable circumstances.

In my childhood days, farmers use to hold a stick in their hand. Small bells were tied to the stick. On moving they use to dash the earth with the stick. In case of any snake, it recognise the vibrations and evacuate from the way. Thus, killing of Snakes and snake bites were avoided.

Lizard is also prayed in south India. Touching the lizard is barred. Not only that any touch by lizard to human is also considered as sin. It was believed that people who touched by lizard has to Kanchi and offer prayers. Main source of the food of lizards are small insects. In absence of the lizards, the insects increases and causes many problems. Hence, our ancestors prevented us from touching the lizards.

The squirrel is an excellent environment friendly animal. It eats the fruits and stores the seeds in the ground, duly making pits. Most of the times squirrel forgets. The forgotten seeds will germinate in the rainy season. Thus, the squirrel contribute to the environment. As the matters stood, the squirrel is related to Lord Rama. The squirrel has helped Rama by offering the small stones, while constructing the massive bridge from India to Srilanka.Squirrel had got admiration from Rama.

Another story was also related to lord Rama. It is believed that Squirrel has got the assurance of safety from Lord Rama. one day Lord Rama observed the squirrel wounded. Rama enquired why didn't you tell me that someone wounded you. Squirrel replied that if someone hurts me , i complaint to my Lord Rama.If my Rama hurted without noticing,to whom i have to complaint.

Similarly, tiger and some more animals got pious status. The ultimate objective of Indian scriptures were to protect environmental balance and ensure safety of human race, though in a superstitious way. In the times of huge illiteracy, it would have a inevitability.

The story does not end here. In the recent past, there is imbalances in Various food chains. Lack of frogs and dragon fly resulted to the increase in the mosquitoes. In 2001 our country had permitted the export of frogs. People massively caught the frogs. Frogs , which used to eat away the larvae of mosquitoes, decreased and resulted to increase of mosquitoes. As a result of decrease in the greenary, especially the grass, has decreased the insects and it resulted to decrease in the number of dragon flies. The dragon fly use to eat the mosquitoes. On decrement in the number of dragon flies has resulted to increased number of mosquitoes.

It is pertinent to mention that the annual expenditure on the mosquitoes control measures and treatment of mosquitoes borne diseases is thousands of crores of Rupees. I am not mentioning the other ramifications of loss of man days and deaths and other information. In this regard , it is necessary to protect the frogs and dragon flies. While travelling, don't kill the frogs.Ask your children not catch or harm the dragon flies. Now the mosquitoes are in the stage of endangering the human race by causing the Dengue, chicken gunya, brain fever and malaria. It is estimated by the scientists that mosquitoes can cause AIDS like diseases by modifying gene structure.

In olden days, it was necessary to make the useful animals as vehicle of God.But, it may not be necessary at this stage of modern age to make them vehicles of God to protect above beings to save human race.

I conclude this article, as usually asking to share this article to share with your friends.

Advantages of Vegetarianism

The Vegetarianism has two kinds of advantages. One is Individual and second is Community. Here i would like to discuss the individual benifits. I am personally a converted vegetarian and seen many heriditory vegetarians. Basing on such experience, I am writing this article. The limitation of the article is that i may not reveal the advantages reaped by higher level vegetarianism.

The individual advantages of the vegetarians are as follows : 1. Vegetarian food digests and assimilates in to the body between 24 to 48 hours. Where as Non vegetarian food digests and assimilated only after 96 hours. This gives the sustainability of digestive system to the vegetarians.

2. The consumption of oxygen for digestion of non vegetarian food is more than vegetarian food. This assures consumption of high oxygen quantity by vegetarian brain.here by making the vegetarians intelligent or at least active.

3. Non vegetarian food consumes more water for digestion. Vegetarian food consumes less water. This ensures water balance for vegetarians and keeps them cool and calm. Where as non vegetarians are emotional and angry.

 4. Spices added to the non vegetarian food generates the high levels of heat in the body . Addition of spices are comparitively less in case of vegetarian food. More heat in the body causes instability of body and mind.

5. The vegetarians can wake up early in the morning and get up quickly from the bed after waking up. Where as booting speed of non vegetarians is comparitively less. Early rising increases the metabolic rate.

6. The quantity of fat in the non vegetarian food is high. This causes obesity, heart diseases, diabetes and hypertension. The low quantity of fat ensures good health for vegetarians.

7.The taste of non vegetarian food is concentrated. Hence, taste buds will reach to excited stage. Thus non vegetarian does not feel the taste of the food, unless it is more spicy than earlier. The memory space occupied by the non vegetarian food is higher in the brain. That's why they easily forget the things. Where as vegetarian has more memory power.

8. The tounge of the vegetarian is slim. It ensure to speak efficiently.

 9. The spiritual power of vegetarian is comparitively more than non vegetarian. In yoga also, vegetarians have advantages over the non vegetarian.

10. Average life expectancy in India is more for a vegetarian than non vegetarian.

 11. The average expenditure on food and health is more for a non vegetarian than a vegetarian.

 12. Non vegetarians quarrel on food quantity and quality during the functions. This does not happen in case of vegetarian.

13. The diversity of food is more in case of vegetarian , as they consume various vegetables and fruits. This ensures the more nutritional values. Thus, assuring good health to vegetarians. vegetarians. Non vegetarian neglects the other foods.

 Community advantages :

1. Non vegetarian giving animals requires sheds for living, also consume feed comes from plants. Thus, consumption of non vegetarian is 3 times higher than vegetarian. That's the reason why Barrac Obama is asking U.S people to be vegetarian. Thus, food security is assured with vegetarianism.

 2. Vegetarianism is an eco friendly habit. All the eco friends gives up the non vegetarian.

 3. Animal consume oxygen and releases the carbon dioxide and methane emissions. It increases the oxygen demand. Where as plants and trees ensures the release of oxygen decreases the demand for oxygen. Thus, Vegetarianism enusures the equilibria of climate and mitigates the climate change.

 4. Excessive Demand for non vegetarian food causes excessive generation by artificial methods such as injecting medicines, vaccines, etc. Irononically, no physical activity is allowed to the animals. These animals are prone to contagious diseases. Bird flu is one of such diseases. Where as vegetarian don't face such serious problems with trees and plants. This can be prevented by diversity of crops.

 5. On depending on the plants, we can get good rains too.

6. Vegetarianism also leads to other good habits of simple living and eco friendly living.

 7. Excessive demand for non vegetarian also destroyes the food chain. For instance, frogs were allowed to export from India. This has decreased the frogs and increased the mosquitoes , resulting to huge number of mosquitoes borne diseases . Similarly , The birds are hunted with the modern equipment . This has serious threat for greenary , as birds are natural sowers of seeds. Thus, Vegetarianism is the best way of living to protect the food chain .

How to increase vegetarians & Vegetarianism.

 1. In the ancient days of Buddha and Mahaveera, they raised the revolt against the non vegetarianism. Such pioneers are required to bring social change.

 2. Due to excessive availability of money , some people are resorting to eat non vegetarian on almost every day. To avoid it, two compulsory holidays for slaughtering, selling, cooking and eating should be given. Astonishingly, The Mughal king Jahangir has given two holidays per week for slaughtering of animals. This should open the eyes of law makers.

3.Consumption of Non vegetarian food should be banned in the marriages. That should be allowed in receptions. It also decreases the burden on bride families in addition to protecting the environment. In Adilabad district Reddy community banned the consumption of non vegetarian food during the marriage. Some other communities replicated such practices.

 4. Government should advertise the advantages of the vegetarianism and maladies of non vegetarian food.

 5. Intelligentsia should bring it to the notice of common man that non vegetarian food was allowed in olden days during the festivals, on arrival of guests, temple fairs only. But, the present continuous consumption leads to environmental imbalances , health problems and climate change .

6. Some yoga gurus are preaching the vegetarianism. These kind of preachings has to be increased. Also, these preachings should reach the common man and depressed classes.

 Limitations of Vegetarian food:

 1. Some of the vital Amino acids are absent in vegetarian foods.

2. Vegetarians are required to diversify the food,so as to have the complete nutritional food.

 3. A few vegetarian people can't show anger, displeasure, even though required.

 4. Vegetarians are not adapted to physical activity.

 5. Some of the vegetarians are very shrude.

Ethical reasons for why we should consume Vegetarian :

Subash patriji, founder of pyramid yoga gave me opportunity to speak on why we should be vegetarian during a meeting in suryapet .I am revealing the same. Subsequently, he added some points. They are as follows :

 1. We are not the creators.Hence, we don't have right to kill.

 2. Animals too have the soul.Trans migration of soul in forced manner is a sin.

3. The size of the intestine don't suit the non vegetarian food.
 4. Consumption of meat increases the Rajo guna.

 5. Excessive use of animal based food causes harm to environment.

 6. Killing of some animals affects the food chain. ( That's the reason why our ancestors banned killing cats, as it kills the rats and saves the food grains. Also lizard kills the insects. Snakes also clears the rats) We can add some more points.

I conclude this article by as usually requesting to share ,if you like it.

Please stop killing Birds

I read the news that Government of Australia sprinkle the seeds from the Helicopters before the rainy season  for achieving the more green cover. The seeds are covered with the soil. Once it rains, the will germinate.

Similarly,  Sri . Vempaty Ajay kumar of Suryapet posted and requested to not waste the various seeds . Instead,  collect them properly and throw it in the barren lands, so as to achieve green cover. It is the system adopted in the Maharastra.

My point is that since ages the Birds had been doing the same job. Birds eat the various types of fruits and vegetables. Some of the seeds are not digested by the Bird. The same are excreted. Now, seed will have the cover of Bird's excreta, which act as a fertiliser. Once it rains , the seed germinates and Bird's excreta helps to growing up of plant.

Unfortunately, many people and communities kill the Birds for their livelihoods. I know some people even poison the Birds to kill and sell them. One Mogili Ramulu of Suryapet told me that he has prevented some people of killing the Birds with my inspiration. The protection of lakes, increasing the green cover has increased the number of Birds. Even some people shoot the Birds to exhibit their skills.
Here, I request all not to kill the Birds. They are they friends of environment. That means friends of whole mankind. Birds increase the number of trees on the planet. They add colour and style to this planet.

Why we should encourage organic farming

Today I have purchased the organic rice cultivated by cow based agricultural. The cost is little high. But affordable to me.
Why we should encourage and purchase such products are as follows :
1. Cow is the only animal that gives the high oxygen through herself and by its products.
2. It avoids the chemicals in to the human body.
3. More vitamins and minerals are available in this food.
4. Our dependence on foriegn countries will come down and prices will come down,as all the fertilisers worth 1,60,000 Crore Rupees are spent on importing. This is one reason for increase of prices.
5. The consumption of food will also come down as this rice has more fibre.
6. The wastage of food will also come down as polishing is not required.
7 . expenditure on health will come down . The healthy eating leads to healthy living of society.
8. Unity among the farmers will increase.
9. Farmer, the backbone of our country get profits as the expenditure is less and he can sell at little higher price.
10. Organi farming requires less quantity of water.
11. It also prevents the use of machines and there by preventing pollution. Not using of pesticides and fertilisers also stops the pollution.
12. Farmers can market their products directly to the consumers and get more profits.

Ensuring safety of pregnant women &baby

Background : The Infant Mortality Ratio and Mother mortality Ratio has been high in our country. It is higher than some poor countries of the world. India is now ranking 5th in the scientific development in the world with world class medical facilities. But, still pregnant women and new born babies are suffering.

Reasons :
1. After the traditional systems have gone, most of the people don't know about pregnancy care, except depending upon the doctors.
2. Preparing for the pregnancy has been developed as separate study in the west. In Indian context, it is a much neglected subject.
3. Pregnant women is treated as Goddess Laxmi. But, nutritional feeding of her is neglected due to various reasons including ignorance and poverty.
4. Medical facilities are still not available are inadequately available to poor people and in Rural areas.
5. Still many people feel the tension during the pregnancy, with which risk of delivery increases.
6.  Folic acid rich foods and Iron rich foods are not provided and properly propagated for consumption.
7. Post pregnancy care is not available still in some towns.
8. The institutional deliveries are not still 100%, causing a lot of problems.
9. Physical activity is being neglected by the pregnant women. It causes problems during the delivery.
10. High risk cases shall be assessed early and proper care shall be given to avoid problems in delivery.

Operational problems of Dry waste purchase programme

Mahabubnagar municipality had started the Dry waste purchase programme to achieve the source segregation of the waste.   There are so many operational problems in this programme. We have tried to find the solutions. They are as follows :

1. Some people are mixing the waste. They are not handing over the dry waste alone. It is hampering the quality of Dry waste.
Solution: pamphlets are distributed. elucidated  what is dry waste and what is wet waste. The waste is segregated in front of the households. Meetings are conducted and clarified what is wet waste and dry waste.

2. Some people not accepted to receive the 1 Rupee for dry waste.
This is a serious problem. It was explained during the meetings that money is given as incentive. Workers can receive the dry waste free of cosy, if someone is not interested in selling.

3. Some people are refusing to come and sell at certain points.
Workers were instructed to move to each house for the comfort of households. The number of workers were increased to achieve this objective.

4. The increment in purchasing was not substantial in some areas.
Sol: In veerannapet and shahsaheb gutta , the dry waste was not increased . Awareness meetings were conducted. Pamphlets were distributed.

5. Some people are not handing over the dry waste and still habituate to throw it in drains.
It was instructed to Jawans to identify such Households and put a cross mark on their house with Red marker pen. Some people were personally warned.

6. The tools and plants are not provided properly.
Whistles, spring balance of 5 kg, Bags, vehicles are nessessary. The same was provided compolsurily after some initiatial problems.

7.Some people thought that dry waste purchase programme is a worker intensive.
In the initial stages it is a worker intensive. Once the collection of dry waste is stabilised, the desiltation of drains were not that required. In Yedira it use to take 5 to 6 days to clean a drain on rotation basis. After the initiative it only 2 to 3 days for drain cleaning. Astonishingly, one of our Jawans have got cleaned the Appanapally Bridge after a long gap of 2 years with the existing labour as drain cleaning time was substantially reduced.

8. Some people thought whether this programme is sustainable as revenue can be generated out of this waste.
The waste was not purchased as it is in Mahabubnagar as was the case in khammam. Again 3 workers have to be deployed to segregate further. Subsequently, it was sold. On an average, 2 to 3 rupees per kilogram was obtained. Also, some philanthropists have donated IEC material. Hence, it was self sustainable.

9. Some staff had asked whether this much process is required for waste collection
Sol: It was explained that source segregation is mandatory as per Solid Waste Management Rules- 2000. This dry waste purchase programme is only a fecilitating aspect. In commercial areas the whole work is dealt differently without payment.

10. Sanitation staff was facing difficulties in convincing households and they lack support of people.
Sol: Wherever problems are identified,  awareness meetings are organised for explaining the advantages.  Also, 30 R. Ps are also trained to motivate people and sanitation committees are formed to assist sanitation staff.

Why rooftop Agriculture?

Many eminent people are suggesting to take up the rooftop agricultural activities.  I have analysed the reasons as follows :
1. The Industrialisation and commercialisation had depleted the quantity of Agricultural lands. The same has to be reinvented.
2. on the other hand, due to the urbanisation, the rooftop space availability has increased . The same has to be utilised.
3. Presently, there is a lot of emphasis on the health consious. But, people are not aware whether the vegetables are free of pesticides and fertilisers. To harvest the fresh vegetables,  rooftop  agricultural is required.
4. As the population is growing,  there is need to discover new lands and new methods  ( horizontal / vertical ).
5. It creates the cooler atmosphere in the surroundings.
6. The release of oxygen,  control of carbon dioxide,  containing pollution,  Global warming, etc. are remain same like other trees and plants does it.
7. Availability of fresh and nutritional foods are similar to that of kitchen gardens.

Pictures are showing the methods existing in the rooftop agricultural.

How to avoid food wastage

It is estimated that only 50% of food produced would be used  by us.The wastage of food and other materials causes stress from farmers to end users.Farmers have to produce more in the same land.Consumers have to buy it at higher price.
First let us know the different stages where food is being wasted.
1.Pre- harvest
2.Harvesting
3.. Bulk selling
4.Transportation.
5.Mediators
6. Selling
7.Coocking
8.Eating

Pre- harvest: In this stage the food is not produced because of the natural calamities like drought and cyclones, heavy rains and speed winds. Except the drought nothing is controllable by human being.
In olden days,  I observed that air used to be controlled by growing bigger trees like Neem, Vippa, etc.Ietc.In the next layer some land was allowed to be kept unused, so as to grow the grass to hinder the blowing air.
There was system of tanks and open wells to cater the needs of water even in case of droughts. But, now the similar systems are less or absent in some areas.
Harvesting time:  In case of rains at the time of harvesting, people have to Loose Everything. There should be a system to avoid such situations. Adequate tarpaulins to avoid wetting of harvest. Also, structures should be provided to store the grains.
Bulk selling & transportation : It requires the transportation to different place. There used to be loss of food grains,if they are not packed properly. There usedto be loss in case of rains and accidents. Some fruits and vegetables used to be damaged during the transportation. This easily decomposes them and spoiles in short time. I observed it in the apples imported from shimla.
Mediators : At this stage also food is wasted, when the sekler try to upkeep for more period . especially, it happens in case of perishable goods like onion, potato, etc.
Sellers : most of the wastage use to take place here due to mishandling , delay in selling ,etc. The solution for avoiding the wastage is to supply farm fresh fruits and vegetables directly to the consumer.
Cooking: During this process, if the person cutting the fruits and vegetables may waste it. Also, if the cook is not efficient, he/she may over heat and waste the food.
Eating : Most of the wastage occure in this category also. Most of the people greedly keep food in their plate and leave it, when they don't like the taste. This happens in case of the non vegetarian food and during the dinners. Awareness should be brought to serve the sample and serve the required quantity. I have seen a hotel serving in such way and saving alot of food. Municipal Administration department of Government of Telangana has taken up a unique awareness program among owners of function halls not to waste the food. Food is God , as per the Hindhu scriptures.Hence, it shouldn't be wasted. The awareness generation only stops the wastage of food.

Maladies of the mineral water

I am one of the disciplined persons having traditional habits and health conciousness. In the recent past i have little pain in the bones. I used the calcium rich food such as til, etc. But , the pain didn't subsidised. I had sunbath in anticipation of deficiencies in vitamin D. Nothing has changed. I recollected that some people got such problems due to use of mineral water. Then i stopped using the mineral water.I have been in compulsion to use the mineral water due to unavailability of tap water. When i consumed tap water for 3 days, my pains started diminished.

Here, I request to stop using the mineral water for the following reasons basing on my experience as follows :
1. It causes pains in the body,as all the minerals are thoroughly removed.
2. The ideal water has no taste . But, astonishingly most of the mineral water has sweet in taste due to mixing of chemicals, which causes damage to body.
3.Absence of minerals cause the deficiencies in the macro and micro nutrients.
4.If the body frame is weak, it is every possibility of weakening of whole body.
5. Kidney use to purify the minerals , etc. The work of kidney decreases, when one drinks the purified water.
6. More quantity of water is required to do purification plants and most of the water are ground water draining the valuable resourses. It also required to draw from very depth causing impurities in water.
7. Huge pollution is involved in the transportation.
8. The water purification causes high energy demanding.

Zero Garbage house of my Grany days

In this article, i would like to share the Reduce, Reuse,Recycle and other methods of Solid waste Management practices existing in the village of maternal Grand parents. This situation existed in most of the villages accross the telangana area in most of the houses.

Hence, it is not the story of my Grand parents. Here,i will also discuss the differences with present days.I recall that earlier i published article on zero wastage of water in my Grany days.

My grand parents had agricultureand cattle. They had a lot of open space in their home. They use to sell and give the milk and milk products and vegetables at free of cost. They use to bring vessels to take out the milk. People use to bring the bags or take the vegetables in the towel  (which kept on their shoulder). In case of women they take away it in the Sarre ( kongu in telugu ). Hence, there used to be no garbage for carrying out the materials. But,presently we use alot of plastic bags to take away the materials, causing garbage generation.

In my Grany days, the materials to be purchased was very low.My grany told me proudly that we are required to purchase tea powder, sugar and salt.We are producing the rest of the items. In some cases they purchase oil, grains, etc.Oil use to be briing in a steel vessel with a handle to it. grains used to be packed in paper bag (locally called lifafa) or packed in paper in a special way (locally called pudige),so as to not to spill or spoil.

As soon as reaching the home, the materials use to be shifted to the steel boxes. They use to keep the paper, hail oil bottles, few quantity of plastic and liquor bottles in a bag suspended to the nail on the wall.

The Garbage generation in those days were very low. But,even now nothing can stop the people to keep the paper and plastic in the bag. People used to sell the reusable material in exchange for something. Now, they are also selling the  valuable materials in dry waste such as newspaper, Bottles, cartons,etc..In case of other material,it is not profitable to collecting person/purchaser.They also lack the knowledge to sell less valuable items.

In olden day,any preserved food or ghee ,etc.was allowed to be touched only after taking bath and with dried spoons of big size.I didn't understand the rationale behind it.I argued it as irrational. Now,i explain. Man in the insanitary form may cause contamination of preserved food.food is source of health and ill health. Also, wet spoons and hands allows the formation of fungi, which creates the waste. Thus, maintaining of piousness is a one of the  waste reductionprocessess.

The old dresses used to be shared by the next sibbling in the family. The very old dresses used to be donated to the poor people. Thus, the reuse of the material is ensured. Some low quality dresses were used for holding the hot vessels.

There was a big pit digged on the north east direction to place all the agricultural waste and dung, fodder waste etc.the dry waste was not mixed in this waste. The pit was dug in such a way that all the rain water was reaching the pit.this allowed the composting of waste naturally. The compost beds were arranged following the time frame. It used to be evacuated once in six months and used as manure. Thus, recycling of waste is ensured.

Thus, the zero Garbage houses and villages were flourishing in India just 30 years ago.

Advantages of hill plantation

There are many advantages of the hill plantation as follows :
1.  Hills cools down the clouds to bring the rain.In presence of the trees on the hill,it will act efficiently and bring more rains more times.
2. It stops the land sliding by arresting the soil erosion.
3. It gives the water for extended time as the trees capture the water in different parts and release slowly.
4. The hill plants are source of rivers and tanks. This increases the ground water and there by flora and fauna. Also, agriculture increases. The evaporation of the water is controlled by the hill area plantation.
5. Biodiversity in that area increases,as they provide food and water to animals . However, plants population also increases.
6. The livelihoods of the people goes up directly by reaping fruits ,nuts and herbs.also, by establishing industries.
7. The presence of ayurvedic plants on hills also heals the people directly and indirectly. This alleviate all  the health indicators.
8. The presence of plants on hills reduces the extremities in the temperatures of the surrounding areas.
9. It also creates the micro climates.
10. When the rocks directly exposed to the rain will cause the substances such as flourides reaching to the water bodies. The presence of plants and trees avoid it.
11. Trees and plants presence on hills increase the presence of grass, which are useful as graging ground for animals.
12. In long run , it will cater the needs of wood.
13. The hill areas will be converted into tourist places.
14. Sustainability of the plants is high in this areas.
15. As the hill plantation brings down the temperatures and increase the presence of water in water bodies further decreases the temperatures. Thus, save a lot of energy and remove ambiguity about water.
16. Other advantages of sucking carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, climate change mitigation, economic values, aesthetic values, shade  , controlling radiation are remain same for hill plantation .

Are we grooming our next generations?

The basic aim of living being is to develop its lineage in terms of quantitative and qualitative.  No doubt, the quantity of human beings are surpassed the 700 crore already . The question now is whether we are striving for the qualitative development of our next generations?

The following are statements not supporting the qualitative development of human kind:
1. The air quality has diminished in the recent past and 33% people in the urban areas are suffering from respiratory problems.
2. The potable water is not available to 250 crore people on this planet. Many water bodies are polluted and degenerated.
3. The food contains traces of pesticides and other dangerous substances.very often it is adulterated.
4. Vector borne diseases and cancers increased like anything.
5. The affects of the climate change is rampant.
6. Almost 100 crore people eat one meal a day. Almost 50% people in poor countries have anemic.

Solutions :
1.Make the human and tree ratio 2 trees per each human. As many people don't like or have time to plant saplings, some people should accept the responsibility.
2.Live simply with less resources to save them for next generations.
3. Save the resources to next generations with  reduce, reuse, recycle and recover.
4. Use the Renewable energies only.
5. Encourage the environment loving people and practices.
6. Produce 50% of food for you and your family in your back yard of on your building.

Why we shouldn't use fan?

I  have written an article on why we should not use the air conditioning. Now I would like to share why we shouldn't use the fan. For that matter,, never use the fan with knowing the advantage of not using.

Fan pulls the air and releases to its user with full speed. In that process,  it also pumps the dust particles. Normally, the small particles are obstructed by the hair present in the Nose. But, when the fan pumps the dust particles, it easily enters the respiratory system. This process is the reason for the increased respiratory diseases, observed Dr. Rajender Reddy, Additional Director, Ayush, Government of Telangana.
( He is the motivator to write this article ).

In the present days, where contagious respiratory problems such as swineflu is prevalent, the use of fan is is dangerous. In the areas where dust particles are more, the use of the fan is not advisable.
Hence,  wherever and whenever it is possible avoid the use of fan.If you want to keep the working place and your home cool, take up shade giving tree plantation on the west side of the structure. It not only decreases your room temperature, but also increase your lifespan by giving fresh oxygen. Your fan does it in reverse. it can't give cool air in summer and decreases your life span.

Advantages of marketing fecilities to farmers

Advantages of marketing fecilities to farmers

Farmer is the only man in economy who buy all products in retail, sells everything in wholesale and pays freight both ways.
                --- John F.KF.Kennedy.

Background: Farmer has been at lossing end since ages. The profit of the middle men is much more than the farmer. We always hear about the suicides of the farmers. But, we never hear about the suicides of the middle men. They indiscriminately increase or decrease the prices paid to farmers and selling prices to the consumer.
Food is the third most important requirement of the human being after air and water. But, its producer don't get the correct returns.Return of the Investment is a distant dream. As rightly pointed out by kennedy, farmers sells in bulk at low prices, except a few intelligent.
Here, i would like to share the case studies, i encountered in my profession and my life.

Case study -1:

During the summer season of 2013, B.Srinivas, Municipal Commissioner, Khammam (myself)had called for the meeting of the wholesale mango sellers. He requested them to stop the artificial ripening. But, they answered that the artificial ripening starts at the stage of imporing in the lorry. They also told that ripening chambers are not available. I understood that they are not in a mood to co-operate for natural ripening and decreasing the prices of mangoes.
Horticulture department has came up with a proposal to let out the Pavilion Ground for the mango farmers to arrange the mango mela. They brought the letter from the District Collector for the same. Immediately, i arranged the ground at the free of cost. The marketing fecilities were arranged for the wellbeing of the farmers.Even after the end of the mango mela, i arranged the marketing fecilities to the mango farmers. Subsequently, during the 2014 summer also the same fecility was extended.

Advantages :

1.The fruits were made available to the people of khammam city at low cost.
2.Farmers also profited by selling their mangoes at retail prices.
3.Consumers and farmers got the assured and earmarked place for mangoes selling and purchase.
4.Quality of mangoes were assured by avoiding the artificial ripening.
5.Different types of mangoes were available to the consumer.
6.The prices of mangoes were stable throughout the season.
7.Selling prices came down , when consumer bought more than 5 Kg mangoes.
8.The word of Khammam municipal corporation prevailed in fixing the prices of mangoes.

Case Study -2:

Hyderabad is the International City in making. It is accomedating the rich and poor in the similar manner.A person with less than 5000 Rupees can live in this city.
Presently, i am living in the Gandhinagar area.It is surrounded by many poor localities. In the leisure time, i use to go to market to buy fruits, vegetables and flowers. On every Sunday, there used to be a weekly fair near the Gandhinagar post office. I observed that the prices of vegetables are lower to 50% on the weekly fair day.

The reason may be simple that the vendors get a platform to sell in huge quantity. Poor get the opportunity to buy in more quantity at once and preserve those goods..New vendors for the purpose of weekly fair may be there and who don't like to upkeep the perishable material and lowers the price, as the night is passing.
Also, i had seen disposing the lemon worth 30 to 40 rupees worth at 10 rupees at 9.30 p.m., while he was returning home.

Also, new vegetables may arrive from near by areas for the purpose of weekly fair and it might lower the prices.
It is pertinent to mention that 1/4Kg is sold at 10 rupees and 1/2 Kg is sold at 15 Rupees. It allows the consumers to purchase more quantity. This enables the sellor to avoid perishing of vegetables, etc.
Whatever the reason, the prices of vegetables, fruits and flowers are available at about 50% lowered price than normal days in weekly fair near Gandhinagar post office.

Case study-3:

I am native of Khanapur village. The The Angadi (fair) runs for two days in a week. That is on sunday and wednusday. The vegetables comes from the neighbouring fertile villages. The prices of vegetables are quite low on these days.
I have my friends in the neighboring villages. They used to brief me that the cutting/plucking time of the vegetables, fruits and flowers are adjusted to the fair days of sunday and Wednesday.
Advantages :
1.It assures the marketing fecilities at assured place and time both for farmers and consumers. It enables the farmers to adjust the harvest days.
2.The prices of vegetables, etc.are less compared to other areas.
3.It avoides the middle men to the extent possible and farmers use to sell at retail prices and get more money.
4.It also avoids the hacking on roadsides and avoids traffic jams.
5.All the Goods are available at one place. It avoids wastage of fuel.
6.The wastage of vegetables would come down , as assured days are available both to consumers and farmers.
7.It is opportunity to the farmers to buy their requirements at one place.
8.Fresh vegetables ,fruits and flowers are available to consumers.
9.More kinds of vegetables, fruits and flowers are available on those fair days.

Case Study-4:

Khammam city is one of the fastly growing towns after Hyderabad. The prices of vegetables, fruits and flowers are high compared to other cities.
The reasons I observed are as follows :
1.One Vegetable market and one Rythu Bazar is available in the khammam city. One Rythu Bazar is to be opened soon..In my opinion, there should be 3 more markets in khammam city.
2.Fruit market is not available.
3.venders sell on the road side and become an easy prey for unethical people..There by sell at higher prices.
4.There are no marketing fecilities in three town area and musthafanagar area and also in newly developing areas.
5.There is no substantial vegetable farming upto 20 Km distance. There by face burden of transportation charges.
6.There is no system of weekly fairs ,there by not allowing bulk sales and purchasing of vegetables.
7.Markets are not integrated . people has to go around different places for different commodities of vegetables, fruits, chicken and mutton, etc..There by allowing price rise.

Conclusion:
Thus, it is very clear that the assured marketing fecilities would provide more income to the farmers and made the Quality goods available to citizen at low cost.

Clarification:

When SHG women is able to buy the groceries, especially rice at lower price in bulk atonce, why it is not happening in case of harvest requirements such as tools, plants, pesticides, etc . Can't we make them into homogeneous groups to do all these activities?

Advantages of Dry waste purchase programme

Background :  Dry waste collection programme is a prchase of paper , plastic, cartoons, glass, metal ,etc from households for 1 rupee a kg. It would be parchased once in a week on a designated day. People would upkeep dry waste in a bag
and hand it over to municipal staff or authorised persons.
Methodology :
1.IEC activities one week before programme is necessary,to increase the public participation.
2. One spring balance for weighing the waste is necessary.
3. One Banner to start the programme.

There are many advantages of  waste purchase programme in terms of health, economic, environment and service delivery as follows :

1. The primary object of wealth out of waste is assured  to households, Collecting people and Urban Local Bodies.

2. The resources would be saved and leads to environment Protection. Saving 70 kg of paper again generates 55 kg of paper. Out of one tree ,we can get 55 kg of paper. Thus , saving 70 kg of paper is saving a tree. For fresh manufacturing of glass, metals ,plastic bags also require a lot of energy  and  material.  The same can be saved.

3. Also, the  plastic, metals and glass can be saved through this initiative. Manufacturing of any material a fresh requires a lot of energy than Recycling it. India  ( our Country )is not self sufficient country in  production of perto products.  Thus, wastage of any resources leads to enrgy consumption. Further, it leads to pollution and  increase of petroleum prices due to excessive use  for manufacturing new materials.

4.  Dry waste purchase programme ensures the segregation of dry waste and wet waste. We can manufacture the compost  out of quality  wet waste. India is spending about 1, 60, 000 crore Rupees  on import of fertilisers.  But our country has the potential to manufacture the Bio- fertilisers out of  wet waste generated  in our country. It also leads to the healthy habit of Non pesticide management.

5. Service delivery can be improved with less number of working people. The people usually throw garbage in drains or open spaces. One worker has to desilt or lift and second person has to carry and third person should put it in vehicle. Thus, three additional persons are required ,if not purchased. The studies in the  purchased areas that the time taken for drain desiltation has substantially decreased.
6.   Employment can be generated for 300 houses per a person for collection .Also , similar number of people are required for segregation of dry waste into different categories.

7. Health of people and sanitation staff improves. The people in absence of purchase  throw it in drain or open space or burn it. Throwing in to drains would choke them and generates the foul smell and become breeding centres of mosquitoes. Burning of waste  would also creates the pollution. Purchasing the waste would avoid all the maladies and lead to healthy conditions. This would reduce the poverty by increasing the man days and reducing the expenditure on health. It also stops the pollution of water bodies and there by avoids the water borne diseases.

8.  Sanitation staff usually mix the dry waste and wet waste. It generates more foul smell. The same used to be consumed by the sanitation staff, leading to decrement in life expectancy. In the new system, life expectancy increases.

9. The complaints on drains choking and garbage lifting can be reduced. Officers can concentrate on the other development activities.

10. The decorum of the town improves.

11.  Public satisfaction improves.

12.  Pollution of air, soil, water bodies would be controlled .

13. It adheres to the environmental principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and recover. There by  protects the environment.
