Why rooftop Agriculture?

Many eminent people are suggesting to take up the rooftop agricultural activities.  I have analysed the reasons as follows :
1. The Industrialisation and commercialisation had depleted the quantity of Agricultural lands. The same has to be reinvented.
2. on the other hand, due to the urbanisation, the rooftop space availability has increased . The same has to be utilised.
3. Presently, there is a lot of emphasis on the health consious. But, people are not aware whether the vegetables are free of pesticides and fertilisers. To harvest the fresh vegetables,  rooftop  agricultural is required.
4. As the population is growing,  there is need to discover new lands and new methods  ( horizontal / vertical ).
5. It creates the cooler atmosphere in the surroundings.
6. The release of oxygen,  control of carbon dioxide,  containing pollution,  Global warming, etc. are remain same like other trees and plants does it.
7. Availability of fresh and nutritional foods are similar to that of kitchen gardens.

Pictures are showing the methods existing in the rooftop agricultural.

How to avoid food wastage

It is estimated that only 50% of food produced would be used  by us.The wastage of food and other materials causes stress from farmers to end users.Farmers have to produce more in the same land.Consumers have to buy it at higher price.
First let us know the different stages where food is being wasted.
1.Pre- harvest
2.Harvesting
3.. Bulk selling
4.Transportation.
5.Mediators
6. Selling
7.Coocking
8.Eating

Pre- harvest: In this stage the food is not produced because of the natural calamities like drought and cyclones, heavy rains and speed winds. Except the drought nothing is controllable by human being.
In olden days,  I observed that air used to be controlled by growing bigger trees like Neem, Vippa, etc.Ietc.In the next layer some land was allowed to be kept unused, so as to grow the grass to hinder the blowing air.
There was system of tanks and open wells to cater the needs of water even in case of droughts. But, now the similar systems are less or absent in some areas.
Harvesting time:  In case of rains at the time of harvesting, people have to Loose Everything. There should be a system to avoid such situations. Adequate tarpaulins to avoid wetting of harvest. Also, structures should be provided to store the grains.
Bulk selling & transportation : It requires the transportation to different place. There used to be loss of food grains,if they are not packed properly. There usedto be loss in case of rains and accidents. Some fruits and vegetables used to be damaged during the transportation. This easily decomposes them and spoiles in short time. I observed it in the apples imported from shimla.
Mediators : At this stage also food is wasted, when the sekler try to upkeep for more period . especially, it happens in case of perishable goods like onion, potato, etc.
Sellers : most of the wastage use to take place here due to mishandling , delay in selling ,etc. The solution for avoiding the wastage is to supply farm fresh fruits and vegetables directly to the consumer.
Cooking: During this process, if the person cutting the fruits and vegetables may waste it. Also, if the cook is not efficient, he/she may over heat and waste the food.
Eating : Most of the wastage occure in this category also. Most of the people greedly keep food in their plate and leave it, when they don't like the taste. This happens in case of the non vegetarian food and during the dinners. Awareness should be brought to serve the sample and serve the required quantity. I have seen a hotel serving in such way and saving alot of food. Municipal Administration department of Government of Telangana has taken up a unique awareness program among owners of function halls not to waste the food. Food is God , as per the Hindhu scriptures.Hence, it shouldn't be wasted. The awareness generation only stops the wastage of food.

Maladies of the mineral water

I am one of the disciplined persons having traditional habits and health conciousness. In the recent past i have little pain in the bones. I used the calcium rich food such as til, etc. But , the pain didn't subsidised. I had sunbath in anticipation of deficiencies in vitamin D. Nothing has changed. I recollected that some people got such problems due to use of mineral water. Then i stopped using the mineral water.I have been in compulsion to use the mineral water due to unavailability of tap water. When i consumed tap water for 3 days, my pains started diminished.

Here, I request to stop using the mineral water for the following reasons basing on my experience as follows :
1. It causes pains in the body,as all the minerals are thoroughly removed.
2. The ideal water has no taste . But, astonishingly most of the mineral water has sweet in taste due to mixing of chemicals, which causes damage to body.
3.Absence of minerals cause the deficiencies in the macro and micro nutrients.
4.If the body frame is weak, it is every possibility of weakening of whole body.
5. Kidney use to purify the minerals , etc. The work of kidney decreases, when one drinks the purified water.
6. More quantity of water is required to do purification plants and most of the water are ground water draining the valuable resourses. It also required to draw from very depth causing impurities in water.
7. Huge pollution is involved in the transportation.
8. The water purification causes high energy demanding.

Zero Garbage house of my Grany days

In this article, i would like to share the Reduce, Reuse,Recycle and other methods of Solid waste Management practices existing in the village of maternal Grand parents. This situation existed in most of the villages accross the telangana area in most of the houses.

Hence, it is not the story of my Grand parents. Here,i will also discuss the differences with present days.I recall that earlier i published article on zero wastage of water in my Grany days.

My grand parents had agricultureand cattle. They had a lot of open space in their home. They use to sell and give the milk and milk products and vegetables at free of cost. They use to bring vessels to take out the milk. People use to bring the bags or take the vegetables in the towel  (which kept on their shoulder). In case of women they take away it in the Sarre ( kongu in telugu ). Hence, there used to be no garbage for carrying out the materials. But,presently we use alot of plastic bags to take away the materials, causing garbage generation.

In my Grany days, the materials to be purchased was very low.My grany told me proudly that we are required to purchase tea powder, sugar and salt.We are producing the rest of the items. In some cases they purchase oil, grains, etc.Oil use to be briing in a steel vessel with a handle to it. grains used to be packed in paper bag (locally called lifafa) or packed in paper in a special way (locally called pudige),so as to not to spill or spoil.

As soon as reaching the home, the materials use to be shifted to the steel boxes. They use to keep the paper, hail oil bottles, few quantity of plastic and liquor bottles in a bag suspended to the nail on the wall.

The Garbage generation in those days were very low. But,even now nothing can stop the people to keep the paper and plastic in the bag. People used to sell the reusable material in exchange for something. Now, they are also selling the  valuable materials in dry waste such as newspaper, Bottles, cartons,etc..In case of other material,it is not profitable to collecting person/purchaser.They also lack the knowledge to sell less valuable items.

In olden day,any preserved food or ghee ,etc.was allowed to be touched only after taking bath and with dried spoons of big size.I didn't understand the rationale behind it.I argued it as irrational. Now,i explain. Man in the insanitary form may cause contamination of preserved food.food is source of health and ill health. Also, wet spoons and hands allows the formation of fungi, which creates the waste. Thus, maintaining of piousness is a one of the  waste reductionprocessess.

The old dresses used to be shared by the next sibbling in the family. The very old dresses used to be donated to the poor people. Thus, the reuse of the material is ensured. Some low quality dresses were used for holding the hot vessels.

There was a big pit digged on the north east direction to place all the agricultural waste and dung, fodder waste etc.the dry waste was not mixed in this waste. The pit was dug in such a way that all the rain water was reaching the pit.this allowed the composting of waste naturally. The compost beds were arranged following the time frame. It used to be evacuated once in six months and used as manure. Thus, recycling of waste is ensured.

Thus, the zero Garbage houses and villages were flourishing in India just 30 years ago.
